What Driving Anxiety Taught Me About Waiting Too Long to Get Help

I hate driving.
Not in the “I’m a passenger princess” kind of way.
More like the “I might shit my pants on the highway” kind of way.

If you know me, you know this isn’t new.
But what you might not know is how it started.

It was a few years ago, right after Rylan was born. I was driving home with him in the back seat when it happened: heart pounding, vision going blurry, a wave of panic so intense I truly thought I might pass out behind the wheel. From that moment on, driving never felt safe again.

Over the last three years, the anxiety has come and gone in waves—but it never really left.
I’ve tapped. I’ve taken herbs. I’ve researched everything. I’ve said, “maybe next month it’ll be better” more times than I can count.
But nothing changed.

Until recently, when I found a Reddit thread where people were sharing how EMDR therapy helped their driving anxiety. Desperate for relief, I booked a 3-hour intensive with a therapist I trust.

Why did it take me so long? Probably because I was telling myself the same story I hear from so many women:

“It’s not bad enough yet.”
“Other people have it worse.”
“I can just push through.”

But here’s the truth:
This anxiety has taken up so much space in my brain every single day.
It affects my decisions, my energy, my mood, my life.
And the fact that I lived with it for three years just because it wasn’t crisis-level? That’s what really hit me.

I used to love driving.
Now it’s tapping, sour candy, a racing heart, and bracing myself the whole time.
If you pull up next to me at a stoplight, let’s just say—it’s a whole scene.

It feels like being hijacked by my nervous system.
And it reminded me of you.

If you’ve ever said…

“I don’t know if it’s bad enough to get help.”
“I feel off, but I can still function.”
“I don’t want to make a big deal out of it.”

…I see you.

And I also see the truth hiding underneath those words:

You’re exhausted.
You’re bloated, inflamed, breaking out.
Your periods are miserable.
Your brain fog is intense.
Your hormones feel like a bitter ex.

And because it’s not emergency-level, you keep pushing through.
You keep going.
You keep telling yourself this is just how life is now.

But here’s what I wish I’d told myself years ago:
You don’t have to wait until it gets worse.
You don’t have to carry it just because you can.
You are allowed to feel better.
You are allowed to ask for support before it gets unbearable.

And f*ck the systems, stories, and standards that made you believe otherwise.

That’s why I created the Vital Insights One-Time Consult.

It’s for the woman who knows something’s off… but doesn’t want to wait for it to get worse.
