What 7 Years in Women's Health Really Taught Me

When I started Motherland seven years ago, I had one clear mission: help women feel better in their bodies.

What I didn’t expect was how much this business would ask me to live the very healing I wanted for my clients.

Because here’s the truth most practitioners don’t say out loud: healing isn’t just for your clients. It’s for you, too.

Motherhood, burnout, business growth, postpartum recovery, rebuilding, these weren’t just chapters in my life. They were my curriculum. Each one asked me to deepen my understanding of what it means to support a body, starting with my own.

What surprised me the most?

That true self-care isn’t optional. It’s foundational.
It’s not bubble baths or supplements (though, love both). It’s boundaries. It’s being honest when you’re not okay. It’s not performing “wellness” while your nervous system is hanging by a thread.

What never changed?

The conviction that this work matters.
Not because it’s trendy. But because since 2020, it’s become crystal clear how much women are holding and how little real support they’re getting. Helping women remember how important they are isn’t fluff. It’s essential.

The hardest chapter?

Returning from maternity leave and trying to be both mother and business owner.
I thought I wanted to be a stay-at-home parent. And for a while, I did. But after eight months home with Rylo, I realised something that changed everything: I also wanted to work.
To be the kind of mother I wanted to be, I needed to keep doing this work. That truth wasn’t easy to admit, but it was real. And it reshaped how I moved through motherhood and business.

What I’d tell myself back in 2016?

Hire help. Way earlier than you think you need it.

A moment I’ll never forget:

Supporting a fertility client who’d been told she’d never conceive and six months later, she was pregnant with twins.

What’s still the most rewarding part?

Watching women return home to themselves.
When they start trusting their bodies again. When they reclaim their power, their intuition, their health. It’s not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s subtle. But it’s always profound.

As Motherland moves into its next season, here’s what I’m holding close:

  • More women, deeply supported

  • More “impossible” stories rewritten

  • More grounded, compassionate care for every phase of womanhood

If you’ve been part of this community in any way, I’m so deeply grateful.

And if you’re just finding us, know this:
You don’t have to wait until things fall apart.
You deserve to feel good.
We’re here when you’re ready.
