Needed Prenatal Multi Gummy Review: A Functional Fertility Nurse’s Take

As a functional hormone and fertility nurse with over 10 years of experience in the fertility and prenatal space, and after working with more than 2,100 women here at Motherland, I’ve looked at hundreds of prenatal labels. Transparently,  I’m often pretty disappointed by the nutritional standards we’ve decided are “good enough” for women while they’re literally growing another human.

My problem has never really been with gummy prenatals themselves (I don’t concern myself with the small amount of added sugar). My issue is that the nutritional value is often so compromised to make the gummy format work that I find it hard to recommend one.

Because as a practitioner, simply seeing “vitamin D,” “folate,” or “B12” listed on the label isn’t enough for me. The form AND the dosage matter. And the overall nutrient profile matters, especially when we’re talking about meeting the increased nutritional demands of pregnancy and supporting mom along the way.

I also know what it’s like to be brutally sick during pregnancy (raise your hands if you have experienced Hyperemesis Gravidarum), and choking down capsules is more effort than it’s worth and often just makes you… sicker.

And that has always created this annoying tradeoff: the prenatal formula I love on paper versus the prenatal someone can actually take consistently, especially through nausea or the first trimester. If you know anything about us here at Motherland, we are the biggest Needed stans. Not only did I work internally on their team five years ago (when they were DREAMING of a prenatal gummy), but we are also continually impressed by their formulations, which makes it an easy recommendation to our patients. So when they announced earlier this summer that they were finally releasing their Prenatal Multi Gummy- conveniently right after I stopped puking 14x a day in my second trimester- I was ecstatic! But obviously, being a Needed stan doesn’t mean I’m going to recommend something just because they made it. I still wanted to flip that label over and see if they had actually managed to solve the problem I’ve always had with prenatal gummies.

What Our Team Looks For In A Prenatal

When I’m looking at a prenatal for myself or one of my patients, I’m not just counting how many nutrients are listed on the back of the bottle. More ingredients don’t automatically equate to a better prenatal, and having a nutrient technically included doesn’t tell me much without looking at the form and dosage.

I want to know:

  •  What forms of those nutrients are being used

  • Whether they’re being included in meaningful amounts

  • What the overall nutrient profile looks like

  • What might intentionally be left out

  • What we may still need to individualize based on someone’s diet, symptoms, labs, and health history

And this is where Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy immediately looked different to me than most of the gummy prenatals I’ve seen over the years.

One thing I appreciate about Needed is that they aren’t just formulating around the bare-minimum RDAs and calling it a day. They actually conducted an IRB-approved clinical study of 235 pregnant women looking at several of the nutrient dosages used in their prenatal formulations (me wishing this was the standard for women’s health and perinatal care, but alas).

In that study, women taking Needed’s dosages of vitamin D, B6, selenium, and zinc had significantly higher blood nutrient levels compared with women taking standard prenatals.

And THIS is the kind of thing I’m paying attention to when I tell you (or our patients) that dosage matters.

Their Prenatal Multi Gummy provides 920 mcg DFE of methylfolate as Optifolin+®, 4,000 IU of vitamin D3, 40 mg of B6, 75 mcg of B12 as methylcobalamin, 70 mcg of selenium, 6.5 mg of zinc, and 55 mg of choline. It also includes vitamin K2, vitamin C, iodine, magnesium, and several additional B vitamins.

Do I expect you to know what all of those numbers mean? Absolutely not, and I recognize you are probably already overwhelmed by all the changes coming your way if you are expecting. But when I flip over a prenatal label, I’m not just asking whether vitamin D or B6 made the ingredient list. I want to know how much is actually there, what form they’re using, and whether there is a reason behind the dosage they chose.

That’s a HUGE part of why this formulation feels so different to me from the gummy prenatals I’ve historically side-eyed.

Ritual Vs. Needed

Ritual is probably one of the prenatal brands that our fertility clients come to us already taking, and there are things I appreciate about it! But when I’m comparing prenatals, I care a whole lot less about how pretty the bottle is or how good the marketing is and a whole lot more about what happens when I flip that bottle over and how supportive it is going to be for the mom. Remember, we’re comparing Needed’s gummy to Ritual’s capsule prenatal here- which is exactly why these numbers surprised me!!! If you had handed me these two labels without telling me which one was a gummy, this is NOT what I would have expected based on my experience with prenatal gummies over the years.

According to the comparison provided by Needed, their Prenatal Multi Gummy contains 17 nutrients compared with 12 in Ritual’s Essential Prenatal. Needed contains 4,000 IU of vitamin D compared with Ritual’s 2,000 IU, 40 mg of B6 compared with none listed in Ritual’s formula, and 75 mg of vitamin C compared with none. Needed also includes selenium and zinc, while neither is listed in Ritual’s formula in the comparison. Both contain 55 mg of choline (more on this in a minute).

Needed describes the overall formula as providing 4x more nutrition than the average of leading prenatals, including capsules‡, which sounds like a big marketing statement, so let’s actually talk about what that means.

It does NOT mean this prenatal is magically “4x better.” Their comparison looks at the average amount of vitamins and minerals provided per daily serving relative to pregnancy Recommended Dietary Allowances, or RDAs, compared with the leading prenatal gummy and capsule brands included in their analysis as of May 2026.

And I think that distinction matters. I don’t care about throwing around a “4x” statistic for the sake of selling you something. What I care about is that when I actually look at the label, this is a gummy prenatal providing nutrient amounts that look very different from what I’ve historically expected from a gummy.

Now, Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy doesn’t contain absolutely everything I would want a pregnant woman to take. And there are a few things intentionally not included that I want to talk about!

Where Are the Omega-3s and Iron?

If you’ve already flipped over the label yourself, you may have noticed two pretty important things that aren’t included in Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy: iron and omega-3s. They’re so commonly talked about as essential nutrients during pregnancy. And no, they didn’t just forget them!

Needed intentionally keeps both separate from all of their prenatal multivitamins, but for two different reasons.

1) Omega-3s are separate because getting a meaningful and optimal dose into the multivitamin itself simply isn’t realistic, especially in a gummy. Keeping it separate allows for more appropriate dosing without cramming everything into one product.

2) Iron needs during pregnancy can vary significantly from woman to woman, and I don’t love the idea of blindly giving every pregnant woman the same supplemental dose simply because she’s pregnant, because too much can make you feel worse if your levels are already optimal. This is one of those nutrients where I want to know what your labs look like, what your diet looks like, how you’re feeling, and what your individual needs are- and then supplement accordingly. I really appreciate their approach, especially as someone who is currently pregnant with low ferritin after getting back my third-trimester labs.

Needed takes a similar approach by keeping iron separate so it can be dosed individually based on your ferritin levels rather than treating it as a one-size-fits-all part of a prenatal. I LOVE THAT! So for me, seeing iron and omega-3s missing from the label isn’t automatically a negative. I’d rather see certain nutrients intentionally separated when there’s a good reason than shoved into a prenatal at a dose that exists mostly so the brand can say it’s included.

Okay, now choline! This is one of the first nutrients I look at when reading prenatal labs. Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy contains 55 mg of choline. And would I personally look at 55 mg of supplemental choline and say, “Perfect, every pregnant woman is totally covered!”? Nope! Choline is one of the nutrients Needed specifically highlights for supporting a baby’s brain and nervous system development,* and it’s another great example of why I don’t believe we should look at a prenatal as this magical, all-in-one product that automatically checks every nutritional box for every woman. Sometimes the best approach is to build a solid prenatal foundation and then add certain nutrients separately when you need more of them (this is what we do in our practice).

Thankfully, Needed knows this too and has you covered. They offer their Prenatal Multi Gummy + Choline bundle, which pairs the gummies with their separate choline supplement, providing an additional 500 mg of choline in one capsule.

You Actually Have To Take Your Prenatal (Consistency Matters)

Because we can sit here and nerd out about nutrient forms and dosages all day long, but none of that matters very much if your prenatal is sitting untouched in the cabinet because the thought of swallowing another capsule makes you want to puke, especially in the first trimester.

And unfortunately, pregnancy has a funny way of making you mourn your ideal supplement plans.

There are food aversions, nausea, a suddenly violent gag reflex, and in my case, Hyperemesis Gravidarum and days of puking upwards of 14 times. There were absolutely points in this pregnancy where choking down a handful of capsules was absolutely impossible to even consider.

This is the piece that has changed my perspective on gummy prenatals over the years. Consistency matters, and sometimes the “best” prenatal on paper isn’t the best option for someone who physically cannot take it.

Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy is a serving of three gummies per day, and the formula also contains 40 mg of vitamin B6 and 10 mg of magnesium, two nutrients Needed specifically highlights for supporting nausea and pregnancy discomfort.*

So, Has A Gummy Prenatal Finally Changed My Mind?

Yes, but that doesn’t mean I suddenly think everyone should be taking a gummy prenatal!

If you’re prepping to conceive, you tolerate capsules well, you’re outside of that brutally nauseous stage of pregnancy, or you’re later in pregnancy and swallowing capsules isn’t an issue, I would personally still lean toward one of Needed’s capsule prenatal options because they allow for an even more comprehensive nutrient profile.

If you’re in the first trimester and the thought of swallowing capsules makes you gag, you’re dealing with significant nausea, you’ve struggled to take your prenatal consistently, or you simply know that a gummy is the format you’re actually going to take every day, we are excited to have a gummy prenatal finally we can (and will) recommend.

‡4x more nutrition refers to the average amount of vitamins and minerals provided per daily serving, measured relative to pregnancy Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs), compared to the average of the leading prenatal gummy and capsule brand and Needed’s Prenatal as of May 2026. Brand A: 8x, Brand B: 4x, Brand C: 4x, Brand D: 4x.
